Randomness Redefined

Grrr! Why is it that that the best boss I have ever had feels like he has to resign? The department head at my job working as a student slave (worker) resigned this week and his last day ever at SMS is the 9th. He is moving on to another job in the Assistive Technology field, I hear that it is related to the private consulting work that he does. I really do not blame him for moving on to a better job and for getting away from all of the BS and asskissing that you have to deal with when you work in a large university. It is just sad to be losing him because I loved his easy going attitude and his managment style.

I have heard that a few months ago he tried to resign but the university promoted him to the Office of equal Opportunity and moved our department (Assistive Technology Services) out from deep in the bowels of Computer Services. A lot of changes have been happening, and among them My boss Bill has moved his office to a new building and a new person took his place as head of the day to day happenings at ATS. Her name is Janis and she is a nice lady I suppose, she has this really annoying problem with obsessive micromanagment that really rubs me th wrong way as well as some of the other crap she has done. She has managed to make all of us student workers really dislake her so we are all sad that Bill is leaving and we will all really miss having him around.

With his departure god only knows who they will hire to take his place or how things will change yet again. we are rushing to complete all projects we are in the middle of now as we are sure they will get cancled as soon as Bill leaves for good or they will be put on hold for who knows how long till a replacment is found.

So I am starting to look around for another job because I am tired of all the changes and all of the BS that I have to do through to do the simplest thing is driving me crazy. We have created procedures for some of the stupidest things, such as getting staples or making a photocopy (in the old system we just did what we needed to do and then emailed Bill and made a note to take the expense out of the budget), simple tasks that now require forms and authorization time.

Is anyone out there looking for someone who is good with people and has some technical knoledge of computers, networking, and the like? I hope there is someone or I guess I will be flipping burgers if I don’t watch out. Till next time.
