Back in the Ozarks

I’m finally back in town. I had a pretty decent time out in Topeka but it is nice to be back in familiar surroundings. I’m pretty worn out as I drove all the way back, I did not have to but my dad has hurt his back and I wanted to give my mom a break and some time to relax. It was not really a difficult drive just a little boring and there was a slight tail wind to over come, all told it was nice to be able to just drive down the highway. I’ve always had a love for the road and well high speeds but mainly I just love to drive. ;) There is nothing like seeing the world at 70 MPH! :D Also, When I got home my “converter” copy of Firefly arrived, yay more Firefly! :) At any rate I am going to go watch a few episodes and go pass out again so I can head to work in the morning. Until then, keep on being shiny everyone. ;)

Todo I don’t think we are in Kansas anymore, oh wait we are!

Just letting you all know that I made it safely to Tokepa and I am currently chilling in the local Panara Bread to I can have my wifi. See yall later. ;)

I almost forgot

Jus to let you know that I will be out of touch this weekend as I will be in Topeka once again to visit my Grandparents. On another not are there any gurus out there who can turn this image Just a little icon of a cute monkey. into a little hamster? This is for the little bar at the bottome of the page displays the times that I post over the last 30 days. i found a mod of the original but it did not work and then I found a custom icon mod. His site is powered by monkies and thus has a little monkey icon, mine is powered by hampster poawer so I need another one. Leave a comment if you can help me out. I will see you all when I get back. :)

IE 7.0b

I acquired the new beta of IE last night, I do like the addition of tabs to the browser but I do not like how they have redone the user interface and locked out where certain bars can be placed, supposedly to prevent spyware from replacing them. This is a typical half assed fix that M$ is so well know for. No improvements to load time or memory usage and it loads pages even slower if it has to open up a new tab that FF does on the same page. I will post some screenshots and some more impressions when I have some free time.

Take that Microsoft!

It only took 24 hours for hackers to break through Microsoft’s attempt to prevent pirating copies of windows XP. I found this over on Boing Boing.

Microsoft “Genuine Advantage” cracked in 24h: window.g_sDisableWGACheck=’all’
AV sez, “This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verify their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called ‘Genuine Advantage.’ It was cracked within 24 hours.”
Before pressing ‘Custom’ or ‘Express’ buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:
javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck=’all’)

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

What will they think of next?

Apartment Update 4: YES!

They cashed our check with the security deposit over at the apartment com lex! We are in baby! :D More as i know it.

Can’t stop The Signal!

I just wanted to take a sec to post about a movie called Serinity that will be coming out in September based off of the short lived, but not dead show called Firefly by the creator of Buffy and Angle television series, Joss Whedon, and the podcast tat has appeared called The Signal. I was not a fan of the other 2 series but I fell in love with firefly after just hearing the opening music on the pilot episode on DVD (I was ignorant of the shows existence as I do not watch FOX and no one told me about it till after it was canceled. :( ). Oh well, I will do what I can by converting as many people as i can to the Browncoat movement by showing the DVDs to as many as I can! In the meantime take a look at the banner below and check out the podcast in itunes or you favorite podcatcher. ;)

Also, go buy this box set! Its worth it, trust me! :)

Apartment Update 3: The Shakeup

Well, the apartment thing is finally worked out, though not how I originally thought things would be. I will still be living with Erik and Eric (how the hell did it work out that both of my roommates would have the same first name anyhow?) but we will not be living in the original apartment complex. Things did not work out with the management of the original complex and after almost 2 moths of what i would classify as almost soap opera digest Erik and I finally decided that we had had enough of their bullshit and that we would look elsewhere for someplace to live. Basically, what happened is that we went from being the only interested party who had secured their placement with a deposit to being one of 2 interested parties who had both put down security deposits and suddenly noticing that the manager could not keep her story straight.

I was absolutely furious at this woman and I could probably rant about it for a good while but I will spare all of you that and say instead that we managed to get into the first complex that we considered. They called Erik and I at work to let us know that they had an opening in August and we had first dibs on claiming a space. We jumped at the chance and scheduled a meeting with them at 10am on Saturday.

The next day we went over and toured the place and decided that we liked this complex, as well as the staff, a whole hell of a lot better than the other complex. We signed the lease and took home the forms to fill out so they can do a credit check on all three of us (nosy SOBs dontcha think? :P) So we will be handing in those forms and then we will be set to move in on August 8th! :D

This place is further away from campus and cost a little bit more as it is $775 a month instead of $600 a month, but that is only $85 more a person so we can live with that. This place is is brand new and everything other than power and local phone service (does anyone still use that? ;)) is covered under the terms of the rent. Two additional pluses are that instead of SBC DSL we get a cable connection that runs into a fiber line for each building, and you can not believe the eye candy that lives in this complex (ie there are lots of attractive and hopefully single girls for me to work my charms on and yes I am a horny male in his 20s so just let me be ;)). I still need to find some furniture for my new room and figure out what to do with my new master bedroom with vaulted ceiling and included celing fan, and separate bathroom *evil laughter*. At any rate I will keep you abreast of things. And now I should probably get some of that sleep stuff that everyone claims is good for me.

WTF?

One a few random tangents does anyone know why the hell my site has suddenly flipped out and decided to go all wonky with the time stamp of the most recent entries that I make! What kind of date is -1 years, 12 months ago anyway?!?!? :/

And now for something completely . . . random! I have to give props the Thermaltake and TTR2 for designing the TR2-M3 heat sink and the very nifty fan atop it! the reason that i sate this is because I purchased 2 of them from a local computer shop after the CPU fan on my brother’s PC ceased to function. I bought 2 because since I built our computers at the same time I figured mine might go out any time now and i did not want to cook the electronics. I mist have gotten the wrong heat sink and fan combination when I built them originally because after having the new CPU coolers in place for about 1/2 an hour the internal temperatures in our case had dropped something like 20 degrees (thats degrees Fahrenheit for us Imperial standard holdovers ;))! Now our AMDs just sing along and what do you know the rooms in which they are housed are much cooler. ;) At any rate chow for now. ;)

Good job Mr. Scott

I meant to write about this earlier but I was to upset about it and some personal stuff that I will talk about later interfered. Yesterday I was saddened to learn of the death of James Doohan or Mr. Scott (Scotty) from the original Star Trek series. Lots of people have been discussing this and if you are interested I suggest that you head over to the search image created specifically for blogs, Technorati. To make your lives easier I have gone ahead and found the specific search criteria for this search so just click here.

I have to say but I think Scotty is probably my personal favorite and i think the only one that i can actually relate to. He also won me over as a SciFi writer and although he only wrote 3 novels they were all very enjoyable stories and even if you hate Scifi you should at least read the first book in the series and chuckle your way through the misadventures that the characters go through.

If you are interested I have provided you with some interesting links about him:

Posts from Techorat again if you missed it.

God Bless you Scotty, you have done well!
