My dad’s new toy updated

I finally managed to get some photos of the Mustang GT that my dad bought after 30 years of longing for his youth. :P If you want to see the photos head over to my flickr page. The reason that I am using flickr instead of just uploading them to my server is 1 to finally have a reason to use the account I created when the service started and 2 its a lot cheaper to use their bandwidth than my own. ;) So move your mouse over this way and click. You can also scroll down the page and view thumbnails of the latest 6 images to my flicker photstream. the choice is yours and either way they will work. Drop me a coment if you have any thoughts or want to say hi. ;)

Midnight madness and a new reading aqusition

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)I thought that I would list my thoughts about the new Harry Potter book called The Half Blood Prince. Matthew and I met Joy at her apartment on Friday night to decide on when we wanted to head over to Barnes & Noble to brave the small children and the general chaos. We finally headed over around 11:00 and the place was completely packed! What was really weird about this was that most of the people there were not children but adults who were in their 30’s and 40’s, I expected more kids to be there since the news raves about how this book series has encouraged younger and younger children to read. Another weird thing for me was that a large majority of people were dressed up in costumes and were sectioning off certain sections of the store for “their house” and the frustrating part was that while everyone was waiting until midnight they were drinking coffee and trying to browse around the store for interesting things to read. This was already difficult due to the large number of people that were present at the even but it became almost impossible once certain sections of the store were off limits to non house members. I was completely disgusted that all of these adults were acting like 10 year olds.

At any rate once midnight hit and everyone got in line to receive their copy or copies of the book things went very smoothly. Joy purchased her copy and Matthew bought a CD of the radio broadcast of War of The Worlds that was broadcast in the 1930’s by Orson Wells and The Mercury theater. I bought the hardback copy of the Complete Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy which is all 5 stories plus a bonus story by Douglas Adams for only $20 and an SQL< reference guide for work and my other projects.

After that we headed over to borders so Matthew could pick up his copy of Harry Potter on CD. We then took Joy back home and then went home ourselves to start listening to the book. :P We finally stopped listening at around 3:30 and passed out. I finished the book yesterday and I really enjoyed the story but I will not discuss it until later to give everyone time to read. If you haven’t read any of the books go out to your local library and check them out! At any rate, back to work I go. ;)

Apartment Update 2

Just so I have this down so far this is what I am hoping to find for my new place.

  • Mattress (Standard or larger)
  • Box springs
  • Mattress frame
  • Desk
  • Bookshelves
  • Lamp or lamps
  • Chester drawers
  • TV

There are probably some things I have left off but this is just the help me out. If anyone out there who actually reads this has some of these items or has some suggestions on where I can find some of this used, etc. please leave a comment or get ahold of me. Next up is a bit on Harry Potter 6.

Barkeep, what’s on tap?

Another week is over and thank God for that! :P I don’t really have to many plans other than maybe washing my car, continue on my furniture hunting, The only definate think that I have on tap is tonight, apparently I have been invited by my friend Joy to attend the release party for the new Harry Potter book at Barnes & Noble. They have release parties for books now and not just movies? If I have any free time I have 3 broken computers that I need to res eruct with my “Electromancer skills” as Joy and April put it and my guild wants me to fix some bugs on our site. We shall see if I actually get to those last bits. In other news the new episodes for Battlestar Galactic, Stargate-SG1, and Stargate Atlantis are on tonight Wh00t!!!! :)

Is it hot in here?

FYI when working a shift of phone technical support it is NOT fun at all to be nice and polite to callers when the building’s A/C is down! With that said off to work I go. :P

Apartment update

Well, we have put down the down payment for the apartment and the manager checked on all of us with our employers and she let Eric know over the phone that we have secured the lease on the apartment when it opens up in a few weeks! :D

Now I just need a bed frame for a queen or king sized bed, some shelves, a desk, some lamps, and maybe some chester drawers.

K2 is out and online!

Over at Michael Heilemann’s Binary Bonsi he announced the alpha release of the sequel to Kubrick. I have decided to assist in the testing process because i have become quite a fan on his uber graphics skills and I keep finding that all of the themes that I try or look at it are based off of the Kubrick theme in some way.

In other news, I have indeed managed to survive my summer intersession class of CIS 528. I do not know what I made in the class yet but thank God it’s over! At work, everything is running relatively smoothly for once with only a few crises. I’m still loving it over at Cart32 and we managed to successfully roll out our new server monitoring service and software called Alert32. This is an extremely cool thing I think because this service can monitor your website, an external website such as Google, and common services such as FTP, POP3, and IMAP. When one of these things goes down the Alert32 service can be setup to email you and if you have a professional level it can SMS your cell phone (I don’t know of any other service out there that can do all of this in one package). While we are on the subject of the professional level of the service if you are running the Alert32 server software on your server (Windows only right now) and you receive a notice that something has gone down you can send an SMS message from your phone to the server have it restart your web server or whatever you desire. So, head over and check it out and sign up for the free account and you can monitor one website and receive email when it is down.

Well, enough of the spiel from work I am going to go back to watching DVDs and whatnot and chilling with my friends. ;) Take care of yourselves and I’ll see you next time.

Happy 4th, of july!

This is probably a bit of a cliche but I just wanted to wish everyone here in the United Stats a Happy 4th, of July and to express my hope that this time next year will bring a better outlook on the world than we have on this day with threats and dangers seemingly on every front. we live in hard times but we have faced worse before and we were able to overcome them and I have every hope that we can overcome our current difficulties. We shall see and until then everyone have a great time and take care of yourselves. :)

An animated picture of the American Flag waving in the wind.

Random bit of IRC goodness!

I was taking a break from my PL/SQL homework for CIS 528 and I came across this great quote in my away log from someone named OctalTHOR in the #freenode channel over on the Freenode IRC network (irc.freenode.net) and I just thought I would share it with everyone. :) If this offenders you you need to lighten up and take a little humor thrown at those of us who thinks Microsoft and Windows leave much to be desired. :P

[10:16:39pm] ·OctalTHOR· “They say if you play a Windows CD backwards you can hear bill gates invoking the devil. That’s nothing; if you play it forwards it installs Windows.”

Doh!

We had a hard drive failure this morning. they have replaced the hard drive and cloned the entire operating system for free! :D I have one week left in my summer intersession and I have survived so far. O+In other news I have added some more spam protection on here even though the default settings seem to do the job. it never hurts IMO as they keep changing their tactics. I will update for real when I have time and I’m not so tired. :P
