FFAF had a great responce so I am removing the restriction that I have on commnets. I will remeove the requirement that you HAVE to be a registered user in order to post. I only enabled this to control spam comments and since I have added some additional security I want to see how it preforms so feel free to post. Later today I will update you all on how my 24th. birthday went. ![]()
Monthly Archive for November, 2005
I’m not sure what happened but several people wrote really great entries for Free For All Friday but they were not published. I guess I messed up something with the permissions for the account that I hope to have corrected by next month. I also apologize for not catching this for mow but I have been a bit obsessed with finishing up my last paper of the semester. In other news my 24th. birthday was yesterday so I will bring you up to speed about how that went a bit later.
Thanks Brett for the freeforall! I’m hoping to have my site back up and running for good over break. Its at www.praisehabit.com

(suggestion : make that login URL a link. make’s it way easier on participnats.)
ugh. i had something witty and cute and or clever to say, but I forgot. So all you get it this. Happy Day AFTER Thanksgiving!
Luka’s Incogblogo; you can be too.
Just to say welcome to FFAF, it’s pretty cool and it’s a chance to get some new visitors on your blog and to meet some new people.
I just like to trawl the particpants list every ffaf and see who’s got an ffaf post on the go.
A good plan is to come up for a meme for your post each month, this month i’m doing christmas (may as well start spreading the joy), do come across and post.
Nice to meet you, another cool blog to add to my daily visits
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and that you were able to be with your family and love ones. I spent the day with my family and today was a pretty good day overall, I didn’t get anything done on my last paper but oh well this is a day for your family. Take care everyone, I know I have a lot to be thankful for. ![]()
OK I am trying out something new and if It works out I will probably keep it. I have created a guest account and your are welcome to use it to post entries or comments on the last Friday of the month and maybe more often if this works out. I am participating in Free-For-All Friday and I first came across it over at the site for another geeksmakemehot (I need to find a girl that feels the same some day ;)).
I had never heard of this idea but I like the principle of it, the way it works is that anyone can post on the guest account that I created and you can post or comment about anything that you want within reason. If you want to participate all that you need to do is this:
1. Go to http://gatewayy.net/wp-login.php
2. For your username please use guest
3. for you password use freeforall
4. Please put any post into the Free For All Friday category
5. When you are done with teh post just choose publish as the post method or click the handy publish button
6. Click the view sit button or open another window
7. Nothing, you have posted successfully, don’t you feel special?
Other than that you are free to do whatever you want. If anyone abuses this I will remove this and no one will have any fun. So lets get to it everyone, TGIF!
Other sites that are participating in this include:
I did not mean for this to happen but somehow I ended up purchasing several things today. First up was the Serinity RPG book. I have not been a Browncoat for very less than a year but none the less I am a pretty dedicated fan. For weeks now I have been listening to my favorite Firefly/Serenity podcast and they have interviewed and discussed the Serenity RPG. As you know I am a bit of a geek so I was interested in the back story and how the inner workings of The Verse were described. I have been trying to get it for a few weeks now from my local gaming store but they have been out. On Tuesday they said that they were expecting a new shipment of the books so I didn’t have time to get there until today. Luckily they had three copies left so I snatched up one.
Later on this evening Erik and I headed out to grab a burger after work and since we were right across the street from Best Buy we thought we would head over and hang out for a bit. I looked for my cohort Zack who worked there but he wasn’t working. So I rang him up to see what was going on (he has a Razr phone so I am jealous:P). We chatted for a bit and then I went browsing the used DVD bin and found one of my favorite slapstick comedy, Clue. It was only 5 bucks so I grabbed it. Mainly, in the bins all that I could find was mainly various chick clicks which have absolutely zero appeal to me so I skipped over that hoping to find a movie that would be as enjoyable as laughing at the gags and intrigue of Clue. As I dug deeper I found another gem of a DVD at pretty much rock bottom prices!
Erik noticed that they also had a few copies of Gattaca. I have love this movie and I have seen this movie numerous times and I consider it to be a cult classic Sci-Fi film. I am probably alone in this but I think this is a pretty kick ass movie and I like it alot so I don’t really care what others may think. After all, its my money.
The movie takes place far in the future and your entire life, career, mating partners, etc is determined by the DNA profile that you have on file. People with the bets genes are at the top and can do whatever they want, if you don’t have those genes your life is much different. I will not spoil the movie for you but if you are interested in this movie, head on over to the ever useful IMDB or maybe add it to your Netflix cue. Actually, has anyone used that and if so is it worth it? I cannot decide if I want to get a Netflix account or pick up a TiVO or DVR from my cable company. If you have any thoughts put up a comment.
At any rate I should get back the to 8-10 page research paper for my Writing II class on IT startup feasibility that is due on Tuesday and the 10-12 page final research paper on open source VPNs that is due after my 24th. birthday. I have to give a presentation for that as well, so I hope I don’t have to go that day as most likely I will be hung over.
On another note take some time to click on the Frappr link on the right hand side and fill out the form so I can see where my readers are from. Also, I suggest using my RSS feed that has the entries in it as I am including links I find that are interesting, etc so I don’t just repost what others have done. If you have any comments, etc feel free to post a comment or email me. Take care everyone!
I don’t remember how I found this but I stabled across this alarm clock from Brookstone that claims that you never have to set it even after the power goes out. The clock also has the typical features an alarm that either beeps or activates your favorite radio station but one of the big things for me is that you can set a different alarm for every day of the week. This is something that I think I would use as I have a different wake up time every day and presently I wake up at 6 AM every day just to make sure that I don’t sleep in and miss classes or my shift at work.
To my knowledge this is the first alarm that I have seen that remembers all of its settings when the power fails. The way that this supposedly works is that inside of the clock is a ROM chip that the settings are stored on whenever they are changed and if it works like other ROM chips once electricity ceases to flow through the chip whatever the last settings that were stored to the chip are locked in and then once power is restored the chip informs the clock of the last settings and so the never has to mess with resetting everything. Why in the hell hasn’t this been added to car radios? At any rate the next time I am up in KC or St. Louis I am going to see if I can find a Brookstone store and see what one of these babies is like in real life and for $60 it seems like a pretty good deal to have a clock that sets its time via the atomic synchronization signals and never has to be reset after a power outage. I’m pretty sure this means that I am terribly geeky and that shiny electronic gadgets I am sure to buy if they are interesting enough.
In other news I am pretty much recovered from “The Plague” as I refer to the over two weeks that I was pretty much incapacitated. I have two 10 to 12 pager due in the next two weeks as well as my 24th. birthday so I will be pretty busy and I probably will be somewhat absent from updating this site like I have been lately. I guess that is what happens as you approach the last semester of your college career. Also, this month marks the one year aniverary of my employment at work so yay for stable emplyment or something.
On a random note we had some pretty rough sever weather rocket through the area tonight so I hope everyone was alright in the aftermath, I think my car suffered some hail damage but I won’t know till the morning. Take care of yourselves and drop me a comment if you wish. Peace. ![]()
Friday I got a copy of Macromedia Studio 8 and I am pumped! This is this disk that has both the Mac and PC versions on it so I can use it on both of my systems.
The products that come in this version of studio include Dreamweaver 8, Flash Professional 8, Fireworks 8, Contribute 3, and FlashPaper 2, if you want to read the specifics of what these products are feel free to check this link. It comes with a developer version of Cold Fusion in case you are into that. What I am really interested to try is the new unified CSS editor that comes with Dreamweaver. I will let you know what I think of it and if anyone has any impressions of he new studio versions feel free to write a comment.
Sorry for the sudden flurry of updates but this is the first moment that I have not either been sick and/or busy so I can finally get some of my thoughts written down.
