Opera Browser for the DS gets a release date and price in Japan

The DS will now have internet browsing on July 24th. I wonder how easy this will be to import?

I really, really, really want a Nintendo DS Lite, I think that I just miss the old Game Boy games of my youth. Although I can have the New Super Mario Brothers, Retro Atari, Mario Cart DS, etc for it. I guess I should find that job or something in order to pay for it first shouldn’t I? :)

Dvorak: the Golden Age of the Internet, enjoy it while you can

“How many people realize that we’re living in a golden age, the Golden Age of the Internet? It won’t last; golden ages never do. Some of it will remain, but there’s evidence that much of it is headed for the trash heap of history.” Great article to pass on to non-techie friends about why stuff like net neutrality matter.

Hey Dovark!, I really respect your thoughts on TWIT but could you please stop shining som much for the love of god? :)

I was mentioned in a podcast!

I had my 30 or so seconds of Internet fame on one of the podcasts that I listen to. I was mentioned in Episode 61 of Michael and Evo’s Wingin’ It! The reason that my name was mentioned, they even pronounced my last name correctly!, was that I purchased on of their Limited Edition Beer Openers. It was signed by the entire Wingin’ It Crew and the studio audience, I must say that this thing a freaking brilliant! All you do is place the opener on top of the bottle, press down firmly, and then lift. You should hear a satisfying popping noise and the bottle cap should be attached to the bottom of the opener and held in place by the included magnet.

I really recommend this show and you should check it out if you just want to hear the fun times that a group of people, some microphones, and beer can have!

SNAKES ON A PLANE!

Thats right, one of the movies that I have been looking for is finally approaching its release. What am I talking about, weill its Snakes On A Plane of course! According to Wikipedia this film is described as:

Snakes on a Plane is an action/horror film scheduled to be released by New Line Cinema on August 18, 2006. The David R. Ellis-helmed film was written by David Dalessandro, John Heffernan, Sheldon Turner and stars Samuel L. Jackson. Although it is now in post-production, and the film wrapped up principal photography in August of 2005, five days of additional re-shooting have been done to bring the movie from a PG-13 rating to an R rating.[1] Though officially designated as action/horror, there has been speculation that the film is actually intended to be a dark, absurdist, or surreal comedy, such as the cult film, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.”

I first found out about about this movie on a podcast that I listen to called Slice of Scifi and I thought the plot of Sam Jackson on a commercial airliner with several hundred snakes half way between California and Hawaii sounded absolutley hysterical and I knew that I had to see it! The studio originally was not going to make this film but the overwhelming success of an internet based grassroots movment to save the film helped them to change their mind. Although I havne’t seen many trailes yet but the movie looks like it will be fun at the very lease, and come on, how can you go wrong with Samuel L. Jackson? “I’ll take a sam Jackson.” ;)

Here is a handy countdown till the movie arrives. :)

Microsoft : Bots a Big Problem for Windows

Bots, or “backdoor Trojans,” can turn a computer system into a “zombie,” meaning a hacker can send remote commands to it and perform a variety of tasks. This can include the spread of malware and sending spam, or using the network of computers to launch cyber attacks.

I guess the folks at M$ just woke up and smelled the coffee. ;) I have been working to fix security vunerabilites in Windows since I as about 10 years old. I guess they have total information overload and are just now getting around to letting us know they are aware of the problem . . . In other news, I am testing Vists and so far I hate to say it is a rather significant inprovment over XP! I’ll write some more about it soon I hope!

Now you can shop around for Linux distros before installing

OSvids.com, a new site launched last week, is a twist on the traditional Linux screenshot gallery. It provides video views of dozens of distributions, giving potential Linux users a glimpse of open source desktops in action.

I know this is really geeky but if you have ever considered trying out Linux this is a pretty neat way to get a feel for it I think. Any comments?

Hawking says humans must go into space

The survival of the human race depends on its ability to find new homes elsewhere in the universe because there’s an increasing risk that a disaster will destroy the Earth, world-renowned scientist Stephen Hawking said Tuesday.

One of the most respected minds in physics and one of the people that I admire agree with something that I have believed in since I was very little! :D
