Upgrade complete!

Sorry had a flashback to my Starcraft days for a second. ;) I noticed that Wordpress 2.0.5 was released so I have upgraded to the newest version. The upgrade process itself was as painless as ever and I was just able to overwrite everything other than the crucial wp-content directory and preforming a one click database upgrade. :) This release looks to be mainly a bugfix release but the Wordpress Development Blog had this to say:

What’s new? We have about 50 or so bugfixes, which you can review on our dev tracker here, mostly minor bug fixes around feeds, custom fields, and internationalization. If you’d like a nitty-gritty view, check out Mark’s blog post on the changes.

Another interesting bit of trivia is that this release of Wordpress is called Ronan. This makes me think of Stargate Atlantis but according to the Wordpress Development Blog the switch from naming releases after Jazz players occurred because:

We’re breaking the tradition of naming releases after jazz musicians to congratulate Ryan Boren on his new son (and first WP baby) Ronan.

It also appearers that there are some new faces amongst the Wordpress Development Team:

Like every release this was the result of a lot of people in the WordPress community, and I’d like to thank all our contributors and testers including Mustlive, Peter Westwood, and Robert Deaton. This is also the first release handled by our new 2.0 maintainer, Mark Jaquith. He joins myself and Ryan with commit access and is “committed to keeping the 2.0 base stable as we head into the exciting new 2.1 world. Congrats to Mark

So go out there and upgrade as soon as you can to get the lates perfmance increases, securty, etc, and for you Akismet users, Paul says this it hase been upgraded with this release as well. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to respond below. :)

Space Shuttle Launch as seen from ISS, 220 miles up.

An amazing picture of the Space Shuttle, launching from Florida, as seen out the window of the International Space Station. A must see!

Ok, this was just freaking sweet! This is one of the most amazing shots of a shuttle launch that I have come across! :D

Ubunt Edgy Eft out tomorrow- How to prepare for and execute your upgrade

Ubuntu’s Edgy Eft (6.10) is out tomorrow, provided no last minute changes to the release schedule. If you
’re planning to upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10, then here are a few steps you may want to take before you preform the upgrade and then a quick guide to upgrading.

Being a Ubuntu user myself who follows the relase schedule of updates as close as I do those of Firefox. I thought posting this article that I found on Digg might help others like me. :) Share any thoughts if you have any.

Two quickies

According to WIRED it looks like future versions of Mac OS X could see the elimination of the Finder. It was a pretty good read and it brought up some very interesting points IMO. Give it a read and share your thoughts about your views about Finder.

Boing Boing has a photo and a short article stating that the development team of Internet Explorer sent the Firefox team a rather tasty looking cake. I say tasty because I’m hungry and I love cake, but seriously this is a pretty nice gesture from two competing software teams. I have heard that the teams have been meeting together so maybe the bad blood is thinning some. What do you think? :)

Looks like Firefox 2.0 is out

According to Blogging Pro the great developers over at Mozilla have officially released Firefox 2.0. Although my copy of Firefox has not notified me of this update it does appear on Get Firefox so I can only assume that this is official. Looks like the new versions of IE and FF are now out for public consumption so go get them!

9rules Round 5 Opens!

Hurry up and submit your site to one of the best blogging communities that I know of. The round is only for 24 hours so you only have a small window! I submitted this site to it, I hope I get in but I don’t want to get my hopes up because they already had 100 submissions in the first 15 minutes! 0_o I know that I am no designer but I do love to write on this site and I hope that I provide something funny and fairly random for your enjoyment. Good luck to all the submitters! :D

Update: I will be sitting in #9rules on irc.freenode.net if you want to come pace with me. ;)

I guess Shamans can be as good as Warriors after all

I found this video in a thread on my guild’s Forums and I thought that I would share it with you all. It is a video of 20 Shaman characters from World of Warcraft going through a dungeon. Usually you do dungeons with a variety of different characters (Warriors, Priest, etc.) but this is a group of 20 different people all playing the same class. This is the first I have seen this done and I thought it was interesting. The movie features music from may of Blizzard Entertainments older games such as Starcraft. If you watch the film and have any thoughts on it please leave a comment or email me at gatewayy at gatewayy dot net. :)

CCleaner: The Best Windows Clean up Software.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history.

I use this on my personal Windows machine and I install it any time that I work on someone’s machine. It really does get rid of a lot of the crap Windows gets over time.
