Gears of War sells 2 million in only 6 weeks

According to Microsoft and Epic’s press release, Gears of War has now surpassed the 2 million sold mark making it the fastest selling game on any of the next-gen consoles. What’s even more shocking is that it only took them six weeks to accomplish this. Get ready for Gears of War 2, 3…

Way to go M$, I really need to get my friend Chris to let me play that on his new 360. . . .

Apple Releases New Holiday Ad

Apple has just released a creative new holiday ad, one that doesn’t involve a Mac and PC bickering. What are your thoughts on this ad? I think its yet another beautiful marketing campaign from a company that is famous for this sort of thing. Just in the time for the holidays you can get your loved ones a Macbook Pro. *cough* I’ve been a good oby does anyone wanna get me one for Christmas? . . . no seriously here I’m not kidding . . . ;)

Apple could sell 9 million Macs in 2007

Even the most zealous Mac enthusiast might have a hard time believing that, if it weren’t for the fact that last quarter Mac sales surged to 1.6 million, and it is looking increasingly possible that Apple could sell 2 million Macs this holiday quarter.

Looks like my roommate Eric isn’t the only computer user that is being seduced by the sexiness that is that Macbook Pro. ;)

Anti-Net Neutrality Bill Dies!

The gavel has fallen on the 109th Congress marking the demise of entrenched corporate efforts to legislate away our Internet freedoms — and a stunning victory for real people who want to retain control of the Internet.

Thank you God pretty much sums this up. This is one of the stupidest bills Congress has tried to pass this year in my personal opinion. Asking companies to pay more to use every other ISP or bandwidth provider that their customers might travel through to view their website goes against the founding principles that the Internet was based on. I could go into a very wrong rant about it but I am refraining from this for the moment. Lets just say I am very happy to see this bill die.

Update: Pual has a pretty good explanation of what Net Neutrality is and he links to another good explanation on Wikipedia that you might also find useful. What are your opinions on this issue? :)

Build Your Own Deathstar

This tool lets you build your own Star Wars Deathstar and outfit it with everything from Ferris Wheels to Garbage Mashers. Unfortunately, Imperial construction and design bureaucracy being what they are, it is very likely that some of your choices will introduce certain vulnerabilities into the design.

This is actually a site to market the upcoming Nintendo DS title, Star Wars: Lethal Alliance that will be released bu Ubisoft sometime this month. This is a fun little site that lets Star Wars fans like myself do what we’ve always wanted, construct your own Death Star! You can apply your own custom paint job, add defensive guns, and even a farris whell! ;)
Below are the unique features of this title:

* One-of-a-kind collaborative fighting:
“Combine the elite weaponry and acrobatic skills of Rianna with the multifunctional defensive and slicing support of Zeeo to create a formidable team. Only by working together can you complete perilous missions and ultimately steal the plans for the Death Star.”

* Epic gameplay and cinematic action:
“From the chaotic planet of Coruscant to the dusty, dangerous alleys of Mos Eisley, Rianna and Zeeo must use a full bag of tricks to complete their mission. Commandeer gun turrets, master death-defying flying escapes, and battle carnivorous beasts.”

* Bold new Star Wars characters:
“Hope lies with Leia’s two newest followers. You must unite Rianna and Zeeo as they fight together against oppression and evil, help save the Alliance, and defeat your lifelong enemy - collaboration is the key to your survival and the survival of the galaxy.”

* Iconic environments and characters:
“Your mission takes you to far-flung destinations such as Mustafar, the Death Star, and Tatooine; you’ll also experience never-before-seen locations on Despayre, Danuta, and Alderaan. Each new environment offers encounters with unforgettable Star Wars characters and species, including Boba Fett, Kyle Katarn, Princess Leia Organa, Darth Vader, Imperial officers, Rodians, Quarren, and of course stormtroopers.”

* First original Star Wars game built specifically for Nintendo DS:
“A full 3D game that will be one of the most visually striking games on the DS. Play each character separately and use the bottom screen to interact. Play Zeeo in first person to complete critical missions. Use a DS-only unique weapon - the Dual Cannon. Play a large variety of minigames using the stylus and the unlockable bonus mode. Challenge up to four players in wireless games including droid shootout, hide and seek and more!”

This seems like a very interesting title and I will probably pick this one up! :) Any other Star Wars fans out there have a DS who would play me in a few multi player matches?

Clear Your Windowsxp Memory With A Single Click!

Tired of running a slow Windows XP? Create this shortcut to clear your memory with 1 Click! easy, useful and handy.

This is a link to a video that shows to make a Windows shortcut that clears up some space in your Pagefile. I’m not sure if this is really a benefit but it does work as advertised on my XP machine at least. Does anyone know for sure what this command actually does: %windir%system32rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks? I would be interested to get some discussion going on this. :)

Will we Have a Base on the Moon in 20 Years

The space agency NASA yesterday unveiled plans to build a permanent base on the moon within 20 years that will allow humans to live there. The base will be used as a launching site for missions to Mars, as well as for analysis of the Earth from space.

This is something that I have dreamed about since I was a little boy. I would love to see it happen in my own lifetime but I am very skeptical because NASA is dependent upon their Congressional Budget which has only decreased with the years. Maybe I’m just a jaded citizen but I seriously doubt I will live to see Humankind establish any sort of permanent settlement in Space but I hope that I have to eat my words someday.
