It has been a very “interesting” month for me up here in St. Louis, to be honest it has been a little too “interesting”. In the last few weeks I was in my first serious car wreck and managed to completely PWN my car, I wasn’t hurt but it this will put some serious stress on my finances, I was able to find a 2000 Catallac Catera in Springfield and I will be taking possession of that soon, although its not what exactly what I wanted but its a steal for the price as its fully loaded.
Also, my grandfather passed away last week of various factors at the age of 91. I was not able to attend the funeral due to work and not being able to take my rental car that far away, I feel really shitty about that but I guess that is part of life. Here is a link to his obituary if you are interested in knowing of his life.
Work is going well and I survived my first week on second shift and managed to survive the massive amounts of calls we received due to some large trunk failures in our network. I’m really liking the job and my coworkers (as well as my manager) are awesome! I’m pondering starting a career track at the company but I don’t know yet as my dream of staring my own company are still floating in my head, I guess I still need to do some soul searching on this.
I still have yet to locate an apartment here in STL but I am getting closer to it, I’m pretty sure Bryan’s parents want there basement back. I am thankful that they have been kind enough to let me stay here till I can get back up on my feet, I will update more when I have an apartment firmly locked down.
So overall things are getting better in my life for the first time in a very long tim and I am looking forward to the future for once, I have no idea how the hell I’m going to pay for everything but for once in my life that doesn’t concenrn me so I guess I’m growing up a little bit . . .
“My a good friend makes kick-ass cakes as a hobby. Last year she started dating my old roomate who plays World of Warcraft a fair amount around his job; for christmas she aquired a “WoW stole my boyfriend” t-shirt. She is good-natured about his love of Warcraft, however, as shown by the birthday cake she made him three weeks ago”
That is one dedicated girl, and not to mention one EXTREMELY talented cake decorating hobbyist! That is one of the most realistic cakes I have ever seen, and it is a really good rendition of the Horde symbol from World of Warcraft. I haven’t had a serious girlfriend in several years now (that’s really kinda sad now that I think about it . . .) but I remember how nice it was to get cool homemade stuff like this. Way to go dude, if she is that geeky and into your “vices” she’s a keeper! Any single females out there looking for a geeky guy to date and is also a WoW Horde player?
UPDATE: here is a link to the Flickr photostream as the ArsTechnica Forums are getting pwned by Digg users as you would expect.
Switching from getting up at 4am and going to work at 6am for almost a month and then suddenly switching to getting up somewhere between 8 and 9 am and THEN going to work at 4pm is a lot harder than I thought! >< On the other hand working as a second shift TSR is a lot more laid back than I thought. Everyone says I’m catching on fast though so WH00T! I have no clue why I’m still up, my mind just won’t settle tonight/today. How is everyone out there?
I have invites to two new Social Networking communities, they are like MySpace but they have cleaner layouts and don’t have all of the spambots. The new networks are Virb So far I am enjoying trig slightly more as I have been active on it a little onger but Virb looks promising as well. if you are interested just leave a comment with the email address you want me to send the invite to.
you might see the domain go down a little bit in the next couples of days as I transition from my Media Temple (gs) Grid Server to my brand new Media Temple (dv) Dedicated Virtual Server. This is a move that I had considered ever since I signed up with Media Temple but I held off until I have their (gs) account a try. I did enjoy it except for their annoying mysql issues but I finally decided that for a little extra money that I would be able to control every little aspect of my hosting experience. Mostly, what pushed me over the edge was this article so thank you Derek. As usual, let me know if anything breaks.
A quick little update for anyone who has upgraded to Mint 2Kristin has posted a quick how to on making sure that your Wordpress install can communicate properly with the Birdfeeder plugin for Mint. I have used these directions myself in lieu of the ones in the official readme file as they are more straightforward. Kristin has also gone ahead and included the edited filed to use on your own blog. A word of caution though:
I’m using the latest version of Wordpress so I have no guarantees of this working with older versions. I can’t stress enough. BACK UP THE FILES BEFORE YOU OVERWRITE THEM.
I’m taking 0 responsibility if you don’t.
If you have any successes or failures with applying this feel free to leave your thoughts below.
